When New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced that his transition team would be led entirely by women, it wasn’t just another headline, it was history being rewritten. In a city that has long prided itself on progressivism yet struggled with true gender parity in power, Mamdani’s decision was a statement, about trust, capability, and the kind of leadership the future demands.

  • Lina Khan, globally recognised for taking on Big Tech as the Chair of the Federal Trade Commission, adds intellectual rigour and a fearless approach to accountability.
  • Grace Bonilla, CEO of United Way NYC, has spent her career advancing racial equity and social inclusion.
  • Melanie Hartzog, the city’s former Deputy Mayor for Health & Human Services, represents financial discipline balanced with compassion.

Five women, different journeys, one shared vision: to make governance humane, inclusive, and effective.
