Rain outside, a book and coffee by my side

Imagine a rainy day, when it is pouring outside, and you have no choice but to stay indoors. What would you like to do? I know what I would. I would love to drop everything, pick up my book, make my self a cup of coffee and curl up on my favourite red chair. And soak myself up in the book, it’s characters, it’s situations. I would be oblivious to everything else. I would occasionally look up, with my mind still on the book but my eyes on the world outside. The world looking so green, so clean and so so beautiful.

I did this the other day, a day on which the rain gods decided to shower us with their blessings and make a cold day even colder( at least by the looks of it!!) I was off from work and had a couple of errands to run. But then I decided against doing any of that. The weather was just too book-worthy. It couldn’t be wasted on the mundane. So I decided to make the most of it. I picked up the book that I was reading at that time, and ended up doing that for the entire morning. It left me feeling relaxed, rejuvenated as though someone had pressed the refresh button on my home screen. Of course, eventually I had to get back to the mundane but that story is for another day.

Such days which let me immerse myself in my world give me a different kind of a joy. A joy that is unparalleled, is hard to explain and which most other things cannot give.

Imagine…I have been reading for a while, sipping my coffee, and then I pause. I look up. All is calm; all is quiet. Just the sound of rain going pitter, patter on the rooftops, the treetops. And the petrichor. That’s my world for that moment. Deep down, my mind is still on the book, on the characters but the scene outside captivates me, enthralls me as much as the book. I want to go back to my book, but I also want to feast my eyes on what nature is doing to the world outside. So what do I do? I end up alternating between the two. The one constant is the coffee which I continue to sip before it becomes as cold as the weather. I keep repeating the process, and then I doze off…
