DEAR YOUNGER ME

Dear younger me,
A world not as you thought it’d be,
Things are so damn contrary,
Here, true happiness is just temporary.

Don’t grow older my dear,
There’s no one here to hear,
All the struggles, the hardships, the issues,
Handle them solely, coz no one will ever step into your shoes.

Unlike those tension free, truly tranquil days,
Now you’ll face trauma in countless ways.
Be it work, be it home,
You’ll have to carry it — absolutely all alone.

Not as you idealized a world of equality,
It’s just a place where you’re criticized constantly,
Too fat, too slim, too dark, too bold,
You’ll face all the stereotypes age old.

You thought everyone is your friend,
But wrong was the idea — here, they only pretend.
Pretend to care for you and to hear,
Constant judging, backbiting will always be there.

Interestingly, there’ll be a point when things seem better,
You’ll find someone to trust and to envision a future,
The closer you are, the more you’ll be hurt by excuses that don’t matter,
And there they go freely, leaving you all alone to shatter.

It’s then you’ll realise the hypocrisy,
Adulting in such a world is never easy,
Your bubble of ‘all are kind’ will burst completely,
And that’s when you’ll discover maturity.

It will be harsh, but not unbearable,
You’ll find someone — a partner, friend, family member — who’s truly reliable,
For the universe already will have taught you the hard way,
But soon will definitely back you, protect you from another worst day.

So just grow, bear, learn and live through the hard time,
Coz that isn’t the rock bottom, it’s a trampoline.
You won’t return to who you were, and that’s just fine,
When downfall comes, you’ll rise, making the fall your climb!
